UNREAL ENGINE FOR VFX ! @ SVA SEPT 29th








SVA is hosting the EPIC enterprise team in a training session for using UNREAL for VFX!
I'm super excited for this event.. as I keep putting off my unreal intro training and this looks like a great intro.

Tuesday October 18th, Maya users group meeting, Featuring Lee Fraser and Lucien Harriot


            Hey Guys, put together a last minute meeting for the users group.. I'm super excited to see some of Mechanism Digital's latest VR projects , and Lee is in town to show some of the latest in Mash and Xgen in maya. 



Lee Fraser , Technical Specialist of Autodesk. Will be presenting a motion graphics in Maya and updates to Xgen for hair , fur, and foliage








Lucien Harriot  of Mechanism Digital will be talking about his latest VR projects using Maya.

VFX supervisor & EP, Mechanism Digital. 
Lucien started in 1988 as an A/V technician designing and building computer animation studios around NYC and installing NY's first Pixar Image Computer. His animation hobby shifted into a business after purchasing his first SGI as and Mechanism Digital was born which now employs up to 25 artists and support staff. Over the past 20 years, Lucien and Mechanism have produced thousands of 3D animations and visual effects for films, TV, spots, and medical explainers.  The creative studio prides itself in taking the mystery out of the visual effects process, working closely with clients through the technical & creative phases, from storyboard to finishing.  A fast thinker and problem solver, Lucien is as comfortable leading production in the studio with a team of computer artists as he is supervising on the set of feature films. The studio continues to push the envelope with innovative media developing touch screen, augmented and virtual reality experiences.

September 16th Maya Users Group meeting

Maya 2016 Extension has just released, siggraph has just ended, and we haven't had a meeting in a while. Come on down to the autodesk offices for some QnA with Lee Fraser about the updates and get  a quick look into Episcura from Patrick McAvena !  Maybe I'll even give away some digital tutors memberships for the best questions asked..

March 25th maya users group meet up




Yes, we are back, and it's a new year, and time for a meeting. ( finally) 

 Sorry about the late notice, but I hope you guys still make it down to SVA Wednesday night, March 25th   to come visit with MPC and Zync. 

 Artists from MPC NY are going to show off some behind the scenes of their latest super bowl commercial "Fable" featuring the tortoise and a very hairy hare.   MPC's fur grooming and rendering tools are pretty amazing and they are willing to show some of how it all works and how they create such amazing work with it.

Todd Prives from ZYNC is going to fill us all in on what is going on in the unlimited power of Cloud Based Rendering using the Google cloud platform..  Already used by countless studios on block buster films, the ZYNC render manager creates an effortless portal to pretty much the most powerful machines you can even dream of.

VFX & the UNION : INFORMATIONAL MEETINGS/OPEN DISCUSSION FORUM

I don't know how many of you met with or talked with the local IATSE union group, but they are very interested in learning about the NY VFX community.  Especially the potential of more work come to our area , thanks to subsidies...

I am sending this out to anyone interested in learning more.



If you would like to continue the discussion of VFX and the union, please join us for an open forum evening.

DIGITAL HEROS - EVENT - APRIL 24th -



Meet Digital Heroes and their culture of creativity that produce the Movies, Video Games, and Products that have revolutionized the past decade and will continue to shape the vision of our future.

AAUGA will meet Digital Heroes from Architecture, Medicine, and Emergency Simulation. They will show us some amazing uses of computer modeling to design the tallest skyscrapers, help train surgeons with medical animation, and the team that helped visually solve the oil spill in the gulf.
Many people want to create special FX for movies, create the latest video game, or want to be in a career of computer modeling and animation, but how? We will show you how several individuals followed their dream and made it to the top of their field. We will discuss with them their tools and techniques and what it takes to work in the computer graphics industry.

Traveling North America in a high tech digitally outfitted super van in order to meet the greatest digital artist of our time. AAUGA discuss hosts sessions featuring inside techniques, computer programs, artist backgrounds, and where the industry headed visually in the future.
Along the way, meet Academy Award winning artist behind Golem of Lord of the Rings, and the technical lead behind Star Wars Yoda, and Davey Jones from Pirates of the Caribbean.

Attendees will also meet the makers of games such as Doom, World of Warcraft, and Unreal. There will be sneak peaks inside studios like Sony and FX Studios.
